Reykjavik School of Visual Arts offers full-time art programmes at two levels: foundation (third level) and diploma (fourth level), both according to the Icelandic Qualifications Framework for Education.

Foundation:
1) The Two-Year Programme to Matriculation provides a supportive environment for creative individuals to complete their upper secondary education. The programme distributes its modules over four semesters with 140 units of upper secondary credits. Thus, students need to complete 35 units of credits every semester for two years. To pass the matriculation exam with at least 200 units of credits, students must complete at least 60 units of credits from other upper secondary schools before they apply. However, passing an entrance examination is an integral factor for admission.

The programme's graduates can pursue further studies in arts and humanities at universities and similar institutions.

2) The One-Year programme provides a concise study with modules from the two-year programme. It serves students who have little or no background in visual arts but wish to prepare themselves for university studies in art, architecture or design. Before acceptance into this programme, students have completed their matriculation exams and successfully passed the school's entrance exam.

3) One-year Study Programme for Students with Special Needs

Launched in 2015, the one-year study programme aims to give students the opportunity to develop their talents in a professional learning environment. The programme complies with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which specifies the importance of people having the opportunity to grow, use and enjoy their talents and the right to study at all school levels. The programme's structure is based on the school's one-year foundation course and is adapted to the needs and abilities of students with disabilities.

The programme consists of 30 credits over 2 semesters, with classes taking place two mornings every school week. Students should have completed their secondary education or the equivalent. The programme is defined as Level 1 according to the Icelandic qualification framework. At its completion, the student is awarded a diploma in art.

Diploma:

The programmes in four separate fields are each a two-year study leading to the fourth level competence according to the Icelandic Qualifications Framework for Education upon graduation. If students wish to pursue higher education, the extent of transferable credits acquired from this programme is in the hands of the institutions of their choice.

The four fields of study are 1) Ceramics, 2) Fine Art Painting, 3) Illustration and 4) Textiles.
