Language of Instruction

Studies at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts are conducted primarily in Icelandic, with exceptions in foreign language courses or when teachers and guest lecturers are not fluent in Icelandic.

The school is committed to providing students with a rich Icelandic vocabulary relevant to their field of study. Preserving and developing professional terminology is considered essential for Icelandic society as a whole.

Teaching Approach

Instruction at the school is predominantly practical, and teaching methods are individualized to support each student’s learning needs. In practical courses, teachers may use various strategies to accommodate foreign students.

In academic courses, recommended reading materials are provided, and written assignments may be submitted in English or another foreign language.

To ensure a positive learning experience, applicants who are not fluent in Icelandic must consult with programme heads or, for open art courses, the course instructor before enrolling. Please email to mir@mir.is for further information.
