General art courses

The Reykjavik School of Visual Arts - RSVA offers basic and advanced courses in drawing, painting, water colour, model drawing, colour studies, ceramics, digital and black/white photography, computer design and cartoons. Courses are open for everybody and no prior study is required in courses for beginners. Students are adviced to start their training with drawing as a basis for all further studies in art and design. With satisfactory completion of a course, 80% minimum attendance, students are awarded credits and written confirmation. Most of the credits for adult courses (from 16 years) are accepted on the secondary education level in the general school system.

Courses for children and youth

Right from its foundation in 1947, the RSVA has put much emphasis on art education for children and young people. Courses are organized around age groups of 4 to 5 years, 6 to 9 years, 10 to 12 years and 13 to 16 years. In the youngest group there are no more than 6 children, but number of pubils grows as the age goes up with the maximum of 12 pubils in the teenager groups. Courses are held weekly, and are available in some age-groups any day of the week except sunday.
